The World’s Largest Solar Plant launched

The World’s Largest Solar Plant launched.

The largest solar power plant in the world, Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System, turns water into steam in order to produce energy turbines which produce electricity. The tower with 300,000 computer-controlled mirrors, all at 7ft high and 10ft wide, are focused toward a 450ft tall tower.

The solar power plant, which is jointly owned by the organizations BrightSource Energy, Google and NRG Energy.

According to the official press release; the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is now fully operational and able to supply California customers with electricity. The facility consists three towers of over 100 meters and will be able to produce up to 392 megawatts of solar power at its full capacity. This is enough electricity to supply 140,000 Californiahomes providing sustainable, clean energy. Another plus to this is the 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equal to 72,000 vehicles being removed from the roads.

Near the border between California and Nevada the world’s largest solar power plant can be found and spread across 8 square kilometers.
